The 4^th edition of Egencia's Business Travel and Technology Survey has revealed surprising differences in the perceptions and confidence levels of global business travellers on the impact of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) on corporate travel.

Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) released the results for international traffic to/from Australia for Jul-2017. The results show a 3.9% year-on-year growth of passengers to 3.5 million and a 3.1% increase of flights to 17,157.

In a world of globalisation national brands are increasingly crossing borders. Even in the highly regulated aviation business airline groupings have found ways around restrictive ownership and control limits to firmly plant their flags in other nations. In Europe, the open market has delivered open skies within the Continent and has allowed airlines to truly become pan-European operations.

Overall on-time performance in Australia for Aug-2017 dropped 5.5 percentage points in comparison to the same period in 2016. The average over all routes by participating airlines was 82.0 per cent for on time arrivals (5.5% lower than 2016) and 83.6 per cent for on time departures (4.8% lower than 2016). Cancellations represented 1.9 per cent of all scheduled flights and increase of 0.4 versus 2016.

LOT Polish Airlines believes its recent comprehensive business restructuring has delivered sufficient cost savings for it to be able to deploy its long-haul aircraft on routes outside of Poland. The Star Alliance member will initially fill a gap in the Hungarian market by launching flights from Budapest to Chicago and New York from summer 2018, but is understood to also be considering other markets outside of Poland for its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet.

It can be really hard for a regional airport to secure new air services, especially when it is located in the backyard of the country's two largest hub airports. Well, that is exactly the case for Albrecht Dürer Airport in Nuremburg, Germany which is located right between Frankfurt and Munich. It is certainly the small fish in the pond, but its innovative Blue Ocean marketing campaign is helping to deliver new capital city and leisure destination connectivity and have seen it become recognised by Europe's airlines for its impactful message to the route development industry.

Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics released its domestic aviation activity report for Jul-2017 highlighting a 2.2% increase year-on-year equalling 5.49 million passengers. According to BITRE, available seat kilometres (ASKs), decreased by 0.3% year-on-year to a total of 7.70 billion. The industry wide load factor (RPKs/ASKs) increased from 80.6% in Jul-2016 to 82.2% in Jul-2017.
